Matching Gutta-Percha Provides Perfect Fit (Clinical Case)
Tooth #15 presented with pain to percussion, recurrent caries. Tooth had prolonged thermal sensation and pain to cold. Pain rating: 7/10.
In the radiograph, I noted a pulp stone in the chamber and highly curved canals.
My diagnosis was symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and acute apical periodontitis.
I located 3 canals post-access. For shaping, I used handfiles to #10, ProGlider, and ProTaper Gold, including the SX orifice opener.
I used ProTaper Gold files specifically in this case because of the high canal curvature.
For irrigation, I used sodium hypochlorite, activated 1 minute with EndoActivator, dried, used 2 ml of QMix, activated for 1 minute, and dried with paper points. I sealed using ThermaSeal Plus Ribbon.
I obturated using a continuous wave vertical obturation method. I also used matching ProTaper Gold Gutta-Percha due to patient gag reflex, and I wanted to expedite that portion of the treatment plan. The ProTaper Gold matching gutta-percha fit perfectly the first time and matched better than any other gutta-percha I have ever used. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Post-op, I referred back to the GP for a crown later that day.
